UAE Minister of Infrastructure Development, Dr Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi told reporters that traffic jams between Dubai and Sharjah to end in August 2018. Dr Al Nuaimi told reporters that several projects are under-process including Al Budaiya Bridge project that will ease up the traffic flow between Dubai and Sharjah by end of this year.
The AED 200-million Al Budaiya project is 75% completed and will be ready in August this year.
Dr Al Nuaimi said:
“The bridge, which stretches over the 4km that is considered the bottleneck, is expected to open for motorists in August this year.”
He also said that trucks will soon be instructed to use Emirates Road (E611) according to certain timings which will also ease traffic congestion between Dubai and Sharjah.
Dr Al Nuaimi also told the reporters that they are planning to add two new truck lanes on both sides. He added that by adding two heavy traffic lanes on both directions will not only end heavy vehicle traffic clogging the highway but also do away with designated hours currently in place.
Also there will be truck stops built alongside the road where truck drivers will park their trucks. This will ease traffic flow as drivers won’t be needed to park on the side of the roads anymore.
Al Nuaimi said that the government is considering road works pertaining to Ittihad, Mohamed Bin Zayed and Emirates roads, after 2021 to further ease traffic flow between Dubai and Sharjah.
